My friend in Fredericksburg seeks
a good t'ai chi teacher in the Fredericksburg, VA, area. If there's none
right there, do you know of any nearby? My preference is to find a teacher who studied under a student of Cheng Man Ch'ing's (t'ai chi chuan yang style short form), or the student of such a student. Thanks, and have a great
weekend.

I am trying to find information about Master
Chee Soo. This gentleman taught and wrote about
five books on the Li style of Taiji. Any info
will be greatly appreciated, (his lineage, current
health, location of his books, etc.).

For those not in the know, the Li style or "Square
Yard Taiji" is rare and difficult to find in the
U.S. There are some that believe the style is on
the verge of "extinction'.
Please post a response here or email me!
Many thanks and good health to all.
Curt.

Regarding Taiji Palm, it is based on taijiquan but has incorporated qigong elements to be more 'health' related. It is taught by a professor from Beijing University who 'invented' it and has a large following. I personally would not learn it but for those who feel they are missing such instruction, it may be beneficial. I would wholeheartedly recommend it for a beginner to learn Taiji Palm instead of a Yang style taijiquan form.

URL: Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) Workshop: Silk Reeling Exercises
Master Zhang Xuexin will hold a workshop on
Taiji Silk Reeling Exercises in Boston, MA
on November 13-14, 1999.

Silk-reeling exercises (also known as Chan Si
Gong) are a series of spiral movements used to
develop the basic strengths and coordination
of Taijiquan. The exercises open up and exercise
the "18 major joints of the body" - neck,
shoulders, elbows, wrists, chest, abdomen,
waist, kuas, hips, knees, and ankles - in
sequence. By harmonizing the internal turning
and external twisting with the Qi and Yi, one
reachs a state where the entire body becomes
an integrated "Taiji sphere."

Whatever your style or level, you will find this
workshop to be extremely valuable. The material
is applicable to all internal arts and is not
easily found elsewhere. Master Zhang is a superb
teacher as well.

Contact Richard Shandross at ras@mit.edu or
(800) 677-3000 x5983. For more information,
see also http://www.mit.edu/people/ras/zxx.html
Cost: $150.

hi,

i'm a new student of t'ai chi chuan and am wondering where i can get info on the meaning behind all the t'ai chi moves in the short form. what i mean by that is simply the names of the moves (i.e. brush knee) and a description of the defensive strategy occuring. in other words, i want to know when i am "punching" someone, retreating, etc.

i have picked up a little here and there from the instruction but would like to gain a fuller understanding.

thanks.

I am a long time student of the martial arts and have been a black belt instructor for 10 years..two years ago I began to study T'ai Chi at a local hospital wellness center and became enthralled by the concepts and applications of this art, both as a defense system and as a means to achieving good internal health. We have incorporated T'ai Chi in to our training program now and the benefits to my students are remarkable, with marked improvement in balance, timing, and above all focus. Recently I have been approached to work with a potential student who is industrially blind.. If anyone out ther has had any experience in this, please email me..Any help would be greatly appreciated.
